Solmatix Renewables is delighted by the long-awaited announcement of a Solar PV  and Battery Grant for the Domestic Market in Ireland.

After attending multiple workshops and advisory meetings with the SEAI and DCCAE over the last year a Grant for Solar PV and Battery Storage for Residential Homes has been announced. Solmatix are very excited and we are ready to start helping people interested in lowering their energy bills, helping the environment and future proofing/adding value to their homes.

In a nutshell, the grants available are:

€700 per kW of Solar PV installed (capped at 4kW)

&

€1000 towards a battery system which is compulsory for Solar PV systems larger than 2kW

There were some key considerations that both the SEAI and DCCAE wanted to address when delivering the grant which includes promoting self-consumption, improving the energy ratings of the Irish building stock and extending the BER (Building Energy Rating) database of Irish homes for research purposes. Another key element was to make it a one-off grant as this is easier to implement and means there are no ongoing costs to the state associated with the scheme. In line with these considerations the following conditions have been put in place in order to be eligible for the grant:

– Your home must be built and occupied before 2011.
– A post-work BER will be required.
– All works (PV & Battery Installation) must be installed after July 31st, 2018 (no grandfathering clause for systems installed before this date).
– Systems must be grid tied.
– The grant is a one-off payment.
– It is a 2-year pilot scheme which will be reviewed every 6 months to ensure it is fit for purpose.

The Team at Solmatix would like to thank the SEAI and DCCAE for their hard work and due diligence (especially with regards to engaging the renewable industry) in getting the grant finalised and ready to go for the Irish public. We would also like to say the considerations they have shown in the developing this grant are very much in line with Solmatix core values which are completely based on having the Irish Publics (our customers) best interests at heart.

With this in mind at Solmatix we will design your system to generate the best value and return on investment for our customers with first class service every time. If you would love Solar PV with Battery Storage for your own home and join 1000’s of our other happy customers across Ireland and the UK please give us a call, our contact details can be found here.

Announcing the grants for homeowners, Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Denis Naughten TD said:

Turning your home into a renewable power station is now one step closer. Microgeneration is an incredibly exciting space that will allow citizens in local communities to generate their own electricity and contribute towards Ireland’s climate action targets. With this grant that I am announcing today, a typical 3-bed semi-detached house would spend about €1,800 on a solar panel system and would save approximately €220 per year on their electricity bills. The Government is committed to helping citizens reduce their energy use and making clean energy cheaper and affordable to use. The introduction of a grant for household solar PV and further increases to home energy grant amounts demonstrates this commitment.”
