Why MCS Certification matters when choosing a solar installer

Choosing solar panels is a significant decision. You need confidence in the system proposed for your home, the quality of the installation and the information you receive before committing. That is why MCS certification matters to us at Solmatix.

MCS is the UK’s quality mark for small scale renewable energy. It sets recognised standards for products and installations, and certified installers must demonstrate their competence and how they manage quality and customer care. For homeowners, it provides an independent benchmark when comparing installers.

What does it mean for your installation?

An MCS certified installation follows requirements covering how a system is designed, installed and commissioned. When the work is complete, an MCS certificate provides a record that the installation meets the relevant standards. That document may also be needed to access certain support schemes or export payment arrangements, depending on where you live and the terms of the scheme or supplier.

In Northern Ireland, it is especially important to check the details of any export offer. The Smart Export Guarantee applies in England, Scotland and Wales, while Northern Ireland suppliers may offer their own export tariffs. We can help you understand what documentation your supplier asks for, but payments and eligibility depend on its terms.

Maintaining the standard

Certification is an ongoing responsibility. At Solmatix, we treat it as part of how we work: keeping our team’s knowledge current, following the applicable installation requirements, checking the quality of completed work and giving customers clear information about their systems.

It also means reviewing our processes as standards develop. Independent assessment under the MCS installer scheme looks at company practices, technical competence and installation work. These checks give us another reason to keep improving, project by project.

A question worth asking every installer

When comparing solar quotes, ask whether the business carrying out your installation is currently MCS certified for solar PV, and whether your installation will receive an MCS certificate. You can check an installer’s status through the MCS installer directory.

Price matters, but so does knowing how your system will be designed, installed and supported. Our aim is to make those details clear from the first conversation, so you can choose solar with confidence.
